I founded We of Earth in 2025 with the hope of inspiring people of all ages to get outside, to play, to connect with nature, and to develop a friendship with the Earth.

I grew up romping around my backyard and the small woods adjoining it, climbing the boulders and pretending they were my castle, building stick forts, and finding cool rocks and leaves and hiding them in a secret spot, my own nature treasure chest. My earliest memory playing outdoors was digging deep into the ground to find the fattest worms, putting them in a jar full of dirt, and bringing them inside to be my pets (to my mother’s dismay…she did eventually encourage me put them back in their rightful home).

But playing make-believe was my favorite activity, and I did it everywhere. At my friend’s house, we’d become fairies and create magic potions out of mud and shampoo (that we snuck from her parents’ bathroom… sorry, Shawna and Jay). On the playground at recess, instead of playing four-square or climbing the jungle gym, I would try my best to convince others to join me in being medieval villagers facing great hardship like poverty and the plague. And sometimes, when the recess monitors weren’t looking, I’d sneak into the woods near our playground because there was an amazing fallen tree that was perfect for becoming a boat lost at sea,

I am so thankful I have never lost my childhood curiosity and whimsy, even three decades into my life.
