Community Events & Programs
Imagine spending an afternoon in the woods climbing rocks and building stick forts, or a morning painting with ink made from plants that you picked yourself. And if you’re a night owl, fear not: having fun outdoors isn’t reserved for just the daytime! Folk tunes under the full moon, anyone?
Through all four seasons, We of Earth offers a variety of nature-based events and programs run independently or in collaboration with other organizations, with the goal of inspiring folks to get outside and “touch grass,” play like a kid again, and connect with nature in unique ways. Events and programs are open to the community for individual sign-ups, and many are offered on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale.
Stay connected via email newsletter and our events page for upcoming community programs!
All community programs can be adapted for private parties. For programs designed specifically for private parties, check out our Private Groups or Corporate Groups pages!
At this time, all community programs independently offered by We of Earth are for ages 18+. Upon request, private bookings can include younger participants.

Gardens, woods, meadows, beaches, mountains… let’s walk it all!
Join us on a guided walk to admire the natural world and get to know the land we live on. We’ll observe local wildlife species, practice field guide and identification work, learn fun nature trivia, all the while getting some physical exercise and building community with our fellow walkers!
Open guided walks are have no specific focus, just noticing and observing while walking with community. If you’re interested in deeper exploration of a specific topic (ex: vernal pool exploration; foraging for wild edibles; etc) check out our Students of the Earth workshops.
Guided walks range in duration of time and level of physical exertion. This will always be noted on the event.
Some walks will take place on APTs (All Persons Trails) that are universally accessible with short distances, paved and even terrain, multiple seating spots for resting, and interpretive and informational stations to learn more about the environment (stations include braille, audio, and tactile features).

Our most popular workshop!
When was the last time you climbed a tree, built a stick fort, jumped off a rock, or made a fairy house?
Playing outside is not just for kids— adults deserve to play outside, too!
Our unique Playdate with Nature workshop is here to inspire you to reconnect with your inner child through reconnecting with nature. We will take a walk together, observing the natural world around us with a sense of wonder, and stopping anytime something peaks our curiosity, to get on our hands and knees and explore. We will play outdoor games, make nature crafts, practice naturalist skills, and of course have plenty of time for free play and self-guided exploration!
Let yourself be a kid again and get a little dirt on those knees!

One of the best ways to connect with the Earth is through the observation of her seasonal rhythms and milestones, and in doing so we also connect with ourselves, noticing how the patterns of our own lives often mirror those of the seasons.
Our Seasonal Celebrations invite participants to appreciate and honor the unique gifts, lessons, and inspiration that each season brings.
Celebrations vary based on the season. We hold celebrations for the start of each season (the solstices & equinoxes), but also celebrate the liminal space between them, such as: the thawing of the earth in mid-winter, “mud season” in spring, the harvest in summer, and the quieting of the land in autumn.
Celebrations typically include a walk in nature, a mindfulness and self-reflection activities inspired by seasonal themes, a simple ritual to honor the Earth, a seasonal craft project, and seasonal snacks to share!

The name of the workshop says it all: let’s do some art and let’s do it in nature!
Sometimes we’ll bring our own art supplies into nature, and other times nature’s gifts will become our art supplies.
Workshops are themed with a corresponding craft project. Custom themes/projects can be requested for private bookings.
For multi-step craft projects, workshops may take place over the course of a couple sessions. This will be noted in the event details.
Examples of one-session Art in Nature workshops:
Illustration— observation of the natural world and drawing what discoveries inspire us. Co-facilitated with a professional illustrator.
Sticks— multiple projects using sticks: weaving, stick forts, fairy houses, and more!
Painting— experimenting with making our own pigments using found natural materials, and then painting to our heart’s content!
Mandalas— inspired by the circular art found in Buddhism and Hinduism, we’ll use found natural objects to design our own mandalas for a reflective, meditative, creative experience.
Examples of multi-session Art in Nature workshops:
Textiles— making natural dyes and dyeing fabric; we’ll then use our dyed fabric for a sewing and/or printing project, co-led by a textile artist.
Herbal Edibles— learning to identify and forage wild edibles which we will process and then use to make some delicious beverages and/or snacks!

Want to increase your knowledge of the natural world around you, to be able to identify your plant and animal neighbors, read the clouds and the stars, name a rock, and more?
Our Students of the Earth workshops center around a specific subject and area of focus, often inspired by the season.
Examples include but are not limited to:
Vernal pool exploration— put on your rain boots and let’s wade into the (temporary) waters of these unique springtime wetlands. We’ll observe species that are unique to vernal pools and learn about the ecology and environmental impact of these important mini-ecosystems.
Foraging & Wild Edibles— learn how to identify the snack-able plants growing in your woods or even along your sidewalk!
Urban “Forests”— explore how diverse the ecosystem is even in an urban environment! We’ll learn to identify common plants used in urban design, and have a “scavenger hunt” to find bits of nature on our city streets!
Animal Tracking— we’ll turn on our animal brain and look at the forest in a different way, learning to read the signs of animal activity and identify species based on these signs alone.
